Picking up vintage garments can be amusing and hip. Nothing like finding a very cool skirt in a style none of your buddies have seen. When they discover it’s a vintage mod skirt and nearly forty years of age the wow factor only increases. Vintage garments aren’t just old garments but they represent a time and fashion ( or trend ) history.
If you need fun and cool garments to wear vintage garments from the 1960′s and 1970′s would be a good spot to start. Sixty’s garments from the mod “invasion” were re-popularized in the Austin Powers flick and are famous for bright colours, short hems and pointy lines. Later years brought more psychedelic colours and patterns together with more denim and leather. All of the ages have a signature item of clothing be it the mini-skirt from the mid 1960′s to the suede tasseled jacket of the late 1960′s.
When buying vintage clothing look for the first labels. Inspect the garments closely for holes, stains, missing linings or any other wear that will have took place over time.
Ensure the colours have not faded ( too much ). If you are purchasing the garments online ensure you raise questions before you bid – if it’ll bug you the prior owners wrote their name in marker on the label then ensure you ask.. Ensure the vintage garments are something that’ll be able to bear multiple washed or dry-cleaning. Try it on and confirm it fits ( or ensure you can return it if it doesn’t ). Remember to accessorize be it with a cool peace symbol or another vintage item.
